It’s full steam ahead for South Australia’s first fully integrated golf course and retirement community, to be located at Flagstaff Hill Golf Course, following the approval of the Planning Application for Stage 2 at the Onkaparinga Council meeting on 3rd October.
Stage 1 of Living Choice Flagstaff Hill, comprising 42 villas, was approved at the end of 2018, and construction is now underway. However, the success of the project, both for the future of the club and the retirement village, hinged on the approval of Stage 2, which includes a spectacular new clubhouse and 123 apartments. The approval is subject to a 15-day appeals period.
Speaking at the council meeting, long-time Flagstaff Hill resident and retired aged care nurse, Sandy Mitchell, said she was fully supportive of the development which would add vibrancy to the area. She said she had lived in Flagstaff Hill for 45 years and it was a wonderful place to live. “You can walk to the shops and medical facilities across the road and a bus stops right outside the village if you want to travel further.”
Geoff Kelly, a Life Member of the club who has lived at Flagstaff Hill since 1974, also spoke in support of the project, pointing out that the new clubhouse facilities would benefit the whole community and add prestige to the area. “Living Choice has produced an excellent design, as evidenced at their villages at Woodcroft and Fullarton.” He added that businesses in the area would significantly benefit too. Golf captain Paul Shillabeer, also spoke at the meeting, saying it would ensure the long-time financial viability of the club.
