With home designs named after Melbourne Cup winners at Living Choice Twin Waters, the residents go the extra mile to ensure that the village’s annual Melbourne Cup lunch is celebrated to the full. The event, organised by Thelma Richardson, Dorothy Blythe and their trusty team of helpers, has become a much anticipated function on the social calendar and not only attracts residents but many visitors as well, including several future residents.
The village’s own “artistic director” Robert Airs, weaved his magic with the decorations, setting the scene for the champagne arrival of the glamorous “racegoers”. Betting was brisk at the “tote”, once again manned by the village’s Maintenance Manager, Dave Forrest, who co-ordinated everyone’s bets and took the betting slips to the local TAB. Many people also had a flutter on the village sweep.
A highlight of the event is the fashion parade and this year, there were some outstanding outfits on display. Nancy Murphy won Best Dressed Lady, Michael Menti was the the Best Dressed Man, Joyce Holehouse had the Best Ladies’ Hat, Graeme Lavender’s hilarious turban won Best Men’s Hat and Val Seth had the Best Homemade Hat.
