Kawana Island’s “Great Shave” raises more than $2,000

Living Choice Kawana Island resident, Margaret Schausberger, and village manager, Russ Dunstan, had their hair shaved off at the village’s Happy Hour last Friday night, raising more than $2,120 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Kawana Island residents came out in force to support the Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser, with many also opting to have their hair coloured pink by the village’s hairdresser, Jan Bermingham, in return for a $10 donation.

Margaret announced that her dentist had pledged $50 if she shaved off one eyebrow. Residents immediately donated a total of $90 to ensure she kept both eyebrows but Margaret had the last laugh, persuading her dentist the next day to match the $90 if she shaved it off!

Margaret shrugged off any praise for efforts, saying “We all raised the funds – I was just the catalyst”. She also paid tribute to Russ for his fantastic support.

Margaret was motivated to join the “Great Shave” in support of her husband, Joe, who has had Multiple Myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, for the past 16 years. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
