Kawana Island bowlers retain the TWAKI Trophy

 Report by Jake Jacobsen

Looking menacing in their new uniform, eight triples teams from Living Choice Kawana Island travelled to Living Choice Twin Waters to do battle for the TWAKI Bowls Trophy. For the uninitiated, TWAKI is an acronym for Twin Waters and Kawana Island!

Not unlike the Kawana Island players, the weather was threatening but held off for the auspicious event. The fast damp track gave all something to think about for a short while, but honed skills came to the fore to overcome that difficulty. The tactics of all teams on the green held the large spectator crowd in awe. At half time the score was a nail-biting two games all.

Sated with healthy sandwiches, cakes and tea the second half teams took the mat. The word had got around and it was standing room only around the rink. Scores fluctuated; it was anybody’s guess who would prevail. However, the result for the four second-half games ended up with Twin Waters winning one game, Kawana Island winning two games and one game was drawn. Kawana Island was therefore declared the winner of the TWAKI trophy with overall four wins to three. Everyone had a great day.

The next TWAKI Trophy battle will be at Kawana Island in October.
