Dick and Don upstage the youngsters at bowls championship

By Kevern Rowe

The two finalists in the 2017 Major Singles Bowls Championship at Davistown RSL Bowling Club were Living Choice Alloura Waters residents, Dick Love and Don Paviour-Smith, pictured above with Club President, Chris Jones.

It was a celebration of the ages – 157 years between them – in a game that lasted for almost four hours!

They both arrived at the finals stage by taking out very well credentialled and much younger bowlers who many expected would have been the pacesetters. It was a closely contested match with Don coming from behind to draw level at 26 all, then Dick catching Don to equalise at 29 all. The last 2 ends went Dick’s way and he prevailed 31 to 29 – a closely fought final.

Dick now goes on to represent the club in the Champion of Champions playoffs. Congratulations to both of you for your achievements.
