Colin Kendrick reports.
Over 300 original individual exhibits were on display at the Artastic Art Group’s annual exhibition held at the Broadwater Court Waterfront Estate community centre on 24 and 25 November.
A preview (with drinks sponsored by Living Choice) was held on the Friday evening for 85 invited guests, plus a team of 20 helpers, and we were very honoured to have our new Gosford mayor, Jane Smith, open the exhibition. She was welcomed by Christine Osgood, Living Choice Operations Manager. Mayor Smith stressed her commitment to furthering the arts within our area.
Saturday saw over 150 art enthusiasts attend and they were greeted by the individual artists who explained the various works and methods used to apply the mediums. Everyone was delighted by the number of items sold. One is to grace the walls of a local doctor’s surgery.
The exhibition ran from 9am to 5pm and the raffle draws and lucky door prizes (ranging from excellent vouchers from local business, cosmetics, mystery parcels and a huge hamper of fresh fruit from our local fresh fruit store) were drawn at 4pm. The winners of the two major prizes (a Pier Bateman Australian Landscape valued at $2,500 and a framed picture by Helen Davies at $800) were won by resident Bruce Judd and a visitor. The raffle raised $500, which was donated to “Aussie Helpers”.
During the day techniques and demonstrations were conducted by Graham Harris - sketching, Helen Davies - painting, Beth Miller - melted crayons, Jill Rogers - watercolour and Elizabeth Goff - photography.
A big “thank you” to all who supported the event to make it a very successful occasion for everyone.
